This afternoon I had the pleasure of tutoring Kim-Jung Su. His American name is Astin. He is five years old and just came to America last year. He was very eager to meet me, which is a change from what I'm used to. Both my other sessions with Nayun started timidly. I planned to use the PBS materials at the library to start our session so once we had gathered all of our materials, we got right down to business.
Although he loved to read, he was not able to read at a very high level, so I read some books to him. Since it was our first meeting, I was trying to gauge his levels of reading, writing, and speaking. He loved to talk and was not shy at all, but his writing could definitely improve a bit because he sometimes writes letters backwards.
I think next meeting I will try to have him trace letters to get used to how they are written a little better. Then I can try and find some books he would enjoy reading for us to read together.
