Joel TS#15

For this tutoring session I met back up with Kwon and Chris joined us to observe. Kwon showed us an award that he had received for writing and he seemed quite proud of it. Since classes were all over he said he just wanted to talk. We started off talking about his English learning experience. He mentioned how when he was in Korea he mainly learned vocabulary and grammar but when he first got to America he had trouble applying it. We also talked about American and Korean humor and he mentioned how sometimes he’ll be watching a movie or something and everyone else will laugh but he won’t understand the joke. I explained that sometimes there are things in English that even Americans don’t understand, so a second language learner shouldn’t expect to be able to understand 100% of everything that is said, so long as they are able to understand the message. After that we just watched some different clips on YouTube to compare American and Korean humor.
