This was the 2nd time I would
visit Fabian, but my first time officially. He is a Spanish speaker and so I
was given the opportunity to practice my High School Spanish, which was very
ill as I had not used Spanish in almost 4 years. I only took Spanish because I
was falsely indoctrinated with the idea by my teachers that it would prepare me
to live in America as Spanish was the largest 2nd language and there
were people of Hispanic culture all over the South. So far in my 3 years in
Tallahassee, Florida, I have not heard one Spanish conversation other than in
the Bellamy building as I walked by a Spanish class. I can’t believe I wasted 4
years learning a language I would never use rather than German. But this was
the time I could use it, and every sentence I uttered was wrong, how fantastic.
I took Fabian to Voodoo Dog for the same
reason as I brought Kwangho there, for the American culture and hot dogs.
Fabian got the same thing and we talked about what we could. He didn’t understand
the majority of culture icons and since his English was intermediate, it was a
little difficult communicating to him and teaching him about my American
culture. We tried a little bit of Spanglish which was fun. He told me about his
plan to become a doctor and his love for the U.S.
After lunch I dropped him back off at the
CIES building.
