Chris CO#1

Yesterday I sat in on my first CIES class. It was a Level 1 Listening class taught by Leslie Wagner.

I got there fairly early and decided to sit near the back so I would not be a distraction. After about ten minutes, class started and Leslie had me make a short introduction. Her nine students did not mind me being there at all. In fact, one of them, who was sitting next to me wanted to chat me in English throughout the class period.

They began by reviewing a homework assignment. This did not take long at all, so they moved on to a vocabulary worksheet that had very basic English words like "wallet" and "leather."

After this, they began the main part of the lesson. Leslie played a video clip that was about a minute long. In the clip, a CIES student is telling his friend about his new conversation partner. The students I observed had a worksheet with all the dialogue written on it with blanks at certain points. They had to listen to the movie audio and fill in those blanks. They all did pretty well! One character in the movie says "dude." Once the students were told what this meant, they were all calling each other "dude" by the end of the class period.

Definitely looking forward to my next Classroom Observation!
