TS #6
In the this session, we continued role-playing, starting with a fresh story. Do-jun
traveled to England on a business trip and needed to find the train station. He
stopped a man who appeared flustered. His name was Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown asked
him for the time, and it turned out, they were both going to the same train
station. On the ride over there, they talked about the beauty countryside and
their jobs. Do-jun’s company made wallets. And it turned out that Mr. Brown’s
company made purses. They decided that they should arrange meetings with their
respective bosses in hopes of a company partnership. Do-jun’s company wanted to
expand to American markets and had to figure out the nuances of marketing. We
also talked about the fashion differences between Korean wallets and American
wallets. American wallets tend to be brown or black, but Do-jun told me that
Korean wallets can come in a lot more colors. It was not all easy-sailing,
though, as I tried to challenge Do-jun’s persuasive skills in English by giving
him obstacles to overcome. For example, one of the people at his company did not want to make their wallets black or
brown, and Do-jun had to persuade him that it was necessary for the company’s
economic growth.
When Do-jun
wanted to express a point, I gave him a better way to express it and we
practiced. For example, here are some things we said during the game:
