Bruce #TS 8

TS #8 Do-jun

We went back to role-playing in this session. To begin with, I tested Do-jun’s vocabulary by showing him around my apartment (carrying my laptop around since it is Skype tutoring) and asking him what different objects in the room are called. His vocabulary concerning household objects was impressive, although he forgot the word for ceiling fan.

After that review, we began role-playing a scenario involving apartment difficulties. Something similar happened to me once, so it was easy to design it. Do-jun rented an apartment in Australia, however, when he came by on the first day, the apartment was a complete mess. He had to complain to the manager about it (using the appropriate phrases I gave him) and try to get his apartment fixed. The manager kept blowing his concerns off, though, so Do-jun had to practice an assertive command of English. I taught him to ask for someone’s manager if he experienced special difficulty with someone. Do-jun also spoke with the repair-man (who was getting his muddy boots all over Do-jun’s freshly cleaned apartment) and had to describe what was wrong while also politely asking him if he could take off his boots. He also conversed with the maid service that was sent to his apartment to clean.
