Today we spent half our time going over the beautiful mistakes Do-jun made in the interview, and the other half in practicing the same questions again. During the interview I typed everything that he said so we could go over it later for practice.

For example, take this question.

What are your greatest weaknesses?

I have difficulty deciding subjects. (I am indecisive) It is one of my weak points.  I will try to correct my weakness.  I’ll get over my weakness very soon,  don’t worry about my weaknesses. (So you don’t have to worry about my weakness)

I color coded his answers to show the beautiful mistakes and then the beautiful corrections in comparison. Red represents a point I wanted to discuss later, and the cleverly designated calming blue represents my knowledge. Do-jun said “I have difficulty deciding subjects” yet a more natural and efficient way to say this is “I am indecisive.” He also told the interviewer “don’t worry about my weakness” which I thought seemed too direct and abrasive for English-speakers. So I explained that it sounds more polite to say “So you don’t have to worry about my weakness.” In English, indirectness is associated with polite language. I had Do-jun practice this again and he did excellent.
