Kamesh TS #1
My first tutoring session was with a Korean 5th-grader named Matthew Hong. We met at the Leroy Collins Leon County public libraryAs this was the first time we were to meet, I decided to give him a short diagnostic test in order to test his reading, writing, and grammatical knowledge. After Matthew finished the diagnostic test, I was pleased to find out that Matthew had a much better grasp of English than I had anticipated. In order to see what reading level Matthew was on, I got up and grabbed books of differing levels in order to test how well he reads. We read books about the Apollo Space Program, which Matthew seemed to enjoy. I was able to find out that his reading level was not as high as I thought it would be, given how well Matthew did on the diagnostic test. I told him to take another book about space home so that we would be able to talk about it next time we met.
