My mom made a meal for Dorothy and my CP,
Park Kwangho. The meal was Korean potato noodles and Korean spicy pork. Dorothy
and Kwangho are already friends so the meal was fun and we talked about the
tests and future. Dorothy still has yet to get her results back and I suggested
Kwangho and Dorothy be better friends so they can be each other’s English conversation
partners as well. Rather than coaching Dorothy or providing excercises for her,
I thought today’s lesson, as it was also our last lesson, should just be fun,
easy going, and relaxing. We all spoke English and she was given the
opportunity to practice her English. There was plenty of practice for my Korean
mother, Kwangho, and Dorothy. They all had fun speaking English to each other
and sharing their Chinese and Korean culture amongst each other and me. Chinese
and Korean culture is often seen as identical to Westerners, but they are as
similar as a German is to an Italian or an Egyptian to an Angolian. Not at all.
Dorothy learned some Korean as well and we
learned some Chinese too such as the different foods and city lifestyles we lived
in before coming to Florida as all of our lives were lived primarily outside of
the U.S.A., even me. We also talked about some controversial topics such as future war in East Asia and the Spratly Islands.
I’m glad that I can say that I can keep
Dorothy and Kwangho as my friends I will plan to visit later, and Kwangho
himself has even become my roommate.
