The upcoming Independence Day holiday, July 4 gave me the
perfect cultural platform to discuss American presidents, elections and the
United States' form of government. Using
a child's book about America's presidential system, Zoe and I began lesson # 2
with reading from the first chapter on "How Presidents are elected".
Zoe enjoyed the exercise and learning about US democracy. It also sparked conversation about President
Obama, candidate Hillary Clinton and the President of Korea who Zoe proudly explained
is a woman, Mrs. Park. Her homework assignment is to come up with a few
sentences about President Obama's job. If
she could speak with the President, what would she like him to do for children.
Jennifer and I again joined together for the last 15 minutes
of the hour to play games together with both girls. This time, the game was Junior Scrabble. Rina won again placing the final letters on
not just one word but two words to win the round. The younger sister is definitely the champ
this time- but like before a rematch has
already been declared. Bring it on Rina,
Zoe and I are ready for the word challenge.
