Genevieve TS # 1

I had my first tutoring session this Friday at 7pm.  It was 8am where Jun-suk lives in Korea.  He is ten years old.  His English is excellent and we had a 30 minute conversation while I watched my daughter at the playground.  Jun-suk introduced me to his baby brother and I introduced him to Fin, who is age 2.  We discussed his love of Tennis and I showed him the tennis courts that were right beside the playground.  He also enjoyed seeing the playground.  Jun-suk told me that he had lived here in Tallahassee.  He also shared that he had just gotten the best score out of his class on an English test but that there were still questions that he missed.  I learned that his favorite breakfast is oatmeal and that he misses his friends in Tallahassee as he does not Skype with them or speak to them over the phone.  I amazed at how perfect his command of English and I wonder how, if at all, I can be of help.

  1. Genevieve,

The time difference between you and Jun-suk must be difficult to work with! I find it interesting that at such a young age, Jun-suk has already lived in Tallahassee and moved to Korea. Was he born in America? I'm very anxious for my first tutor session!

  2. Jun-suk was born in S.Korea and moved to Tallahassee at the age of 3. Then, he and his family moved back to Korea when he was 8. :-)

  3. The time difference is challenging, but it seems to work. Jun explained to me that age is counted differently in S. Korea, his baby brother who looks to me to be about 1 or 1.5 years old is 3. My daughter is 2 by U.S. counting, but is much older than Jun's brother.
