TV Le TS #3

On the morning of Friday, June 26, I tutored Nayun (5 years old) immediately after Dylan did. I was nervous about tutoring right after his session because I thought Nayun might be tired or bored of studying. This was not the case. Since we studied in the library, I took Nayun to pick out some books she may enjoy reading. Although this was only our second session, I knew that she did not like reading much and figured I may as well try to get her to read now. When we sat back down, I asked her to start reading and she refused. I asked if she could just read one story and then we could do something she wanted to do. This pleased her. She was a very proficient reader. She would mumble through big words, such as "frustrated" so I had to repeat them for her to hear how to say them correctly.

Following this activity, we did a PBSkids booklet together. This included activities such as word searches and mad libs. The fill in the blank (mad lib) was a letter to a loved one. Each blank contained suggestions for words to fill in. When we came to a blank with words she didn't understand, I would explain each one and she chose the one she wanted to use. This would enhance her comprehension of difficult words and increase her reading abilities.

I must admit I haven't evaluated her much, but at this point I think it's more important to have her practice each skill while I'm assessing her levels.
