Boram CO #2

Room 304 Group 3B IN-HI (Mrs. Rebecca Turk)- Grammar.

I observed CIES grammar class this time. At the beginning, Instructor gave students 10 minutes to write journals using target structure: Present participle. Students asked questions freely when they were writing, and put journals to the journal box. After that, instructor reviewed previous topic by starting small talks. Then, instructor naturally introduced the today’s topic: Complex preposition by showing some pictures on the screen. Instructor was drawing a picture and speaking prepositions such as: in front of, next to, underneath, into, inside and etc. Then, instructor encouraged students to ask questions to the partner. Students participated each other and asked question based on the sheet that instructor distributed. Instructor circulated classroom and gave hint. Each group spoke to the classroom using target structure. Then, instructor suggested strongly not to end sentence with preposition and she gave some exceptional example sentences as well. Example questions were “where are you going to?”, “To where are you going”. Also, she introduced some new English words which are not written in a dictionary and added the phenomenon of changing language. Instructor used the blackboard to explain the duration of preposition, and explained the complex prepositions’ place and moments concept by giving examples. Instructor gave the definition of a number of prepositions by giving contrast and comparison techniques. For example, instructor taught the difference between beside and beside, toward and towards, and until and till. Then, students were asked to fill in the blank of the practice questions. At the end, instructor gave students homework about translation English to their mother tongue language. Instructor were really leading classroom very passionately, and students participated very well. The whole class was very focused and instructor also gave students useful and practical tips to students.
