Yesterday, I made a hash of my first adult tutoring session. I believe I redeemed myself today, and I feel much more confident that Pinar believes in me now. We met in the CIES lounge during her lunch from 12:00 till 1:00. I prepared material on the topics we went over yesterday, so that I was actually prepared this time.
First, we went over adjective clauses. After looking up adjective clauses online last night they it was easy to explain to Pinar. I was very excited to help her with this topic because I felt so bad yesterday when I was of no help. After she became comfortable with this topic we moved on to writing introductions.
She showed me her paper that she had written all last night. The paper was almost six pages long! I can only imagine writing that many pages in my second language. We went over her introduction, which was not as bad as she thought. Yesterday I said we should talk about her essay topic to make her brainstorm a little. Today she reported back that our conversation had helped her tremendously.
At the end of the lesson she said she was going to make some corrections and then text me her new revised introduction. I am very happy to tutor her because she seems to be putting a lot of effort into bettering her English.
