I
decided to incorporate a very fun activity for the two lovely girls and
introduce to them the two games of “Pictionary” and “Charades”. Charades is the
attempt by someone to act out a word they are given, so this develops their
understanding of new words and ways to communicate it in a gesticulated and
expressive manner the same way it allows people to perceive others actions.
Pictionary is the attempt by someone to draw out a word they are given, which
benefits the guesser as they are learning broader ways to understand a word
visually as well as the artist who must use as many descriptive terms and
objects to get their message out. The girls loved these two games. I also put
in Korean candy prizes that after 15 points, a girl would get to choose a candy
prize out of my bag of treats. Hye-Jeong ended up eating three Choco-Pies to her
mother’s dismay, and Hye-In took all my gum. The girls excelled at both of
these activities. I helped them with hints on a frequent basis but they learned
many new words, especially since they not only had to read the term, but had to
draw or act it out. I shot some videos and sent them to their parents so they could smile and laugh over how silly their daughters were acting.
