Dorothy’s final research paper is due today. The day before
her internet had been out, so she couldn’t do the work she needed to do. She
also does not have a car. So I thought it best to drive her to Strozier Library so we
can both do our studies and I can help her edit and proofread her research
paper. Who know proofreading would lead to so many opportunities to teach! One
of my favorite moments from this TS was in my advising construction on one of
her sentences. I had suggested writing a sentence such as “this is the reason this
renders the object obsolete.” She didn’t know what render meant, and as
copiously I have used that word my whole life in essays and in real life, I
myself didn’t know what it meant! So we both researched it and arrived at the
conclusion that the word “render” is just a fancy, upgraded word of “become”.
In this TS, we have had at least 10 of these moments. Her essay is coming along
well and I only hope she can get a great grade which I am assured she will.
She
writes down everything I say and studies intensively. I can really notice and
witness the ambition Dorothy has into mastering the English language and it is
very inspiring. English is tremendously important to Dorothy and she will
achieve it’s mastery.
