Jordan TS#3

Today I tutored David for the first time. He is a piece of work. He has a taken a dislike to reading and spends most of the time attempting to avoid it. I had a few books picked out and his mother had a couple others that she had found. He rejected two for looking "dumb" -- which I assume means appears childish to him. He said, to no surprise from me, that he likes graphic novels, but though he has read couple books from the "Bone" series, he said they have gotten old. We picked out a graphic novel of the "Avatar: Last Airbender" series and started going through that. Right away I noticed some patterns. He avoided the descriptions, sticking to the dialogue portions, and skipped over Zuko's parts -- which I assume has too much angst for him. He tries to read faster than he can keep up with, which is probably frustrating for him, and his extreme reaction to things outside -- or even seemingly outside -- his tastes will make selecting reading items very difficult. His speaking and listening skills are very good, but I'm not sure how well he understands when reading. He probably goes too quickly for the information to sink in, so he misses a lot of details large and small.
