TV TS#11

This morning I tutored Chloe again. I came prepared to play speaking games to encourage her to practice. This was difficult because she was so shy about it still. If she was unsure about something she didn't want to say anything. Last session I left a PBS kids book for her to play because we had done some activities in them, but there were some we couldn't do so I encouraged her to try with her cousins/siblings.
At the start of my session, she brought the book to the table and showed me what she did. I then told her we were going to start with some games and she was happy about this. I explained what we were doing and I started by explaining a bird to her and she got it! So we began. She had some difficulty forming sentences, but I didn't correct her directly. I would try to repeat what she said the correct way, but in the form of a question. She would say, "I....my friend..." and I would have to ask "you are with your friend?" To correct her, but also for the sake of trying to figure out what her word was!
Speaking went a little bit better than the first session, but I've come to find the first session shouldn't even count!

After a little bit of the speaking game, I had her work on shapes. I started by drawing the shapes. Then I labeled them for her as she said what each one was. If she didn't know what a shape was, I would say the name, then have her repeat it. Next, I drew a castle using most of the shapes and asked her to label them. At this point, I was allowing her to use the sheet we had just written up, but for the second example, I had her try without. She knew the shapes, it was only difficult for her to spell them.

For correction at the end, I showed her the first sheet and she went back to correct her own spelling errors. I think this was a good way of correcting because it will emphasize the words she spelled wrong and while she corrects them, it will help her remember for the next time she writes them.
