Today I tutored Chloe, an 8 year old girl from South Korea. I was most nervous for this session because she was born and raised in Korea, only in America for a short period of time. To my surprise, she knew so much already. We started with her name, which she wrote with flawless penmanship, then I asked her to write out the alphabet.
She did so diligently. I was amazed by her handwriting. We moved on to days of the week and about halfway through I realized that she had skipped some letters in the alphabet, from T-W. I waited for her to finish writing the days of the week before I backtracked and asked her if all the letters were there or not. She realized her mistake and erased the "XYZ" to insert the missing letters.
I was able to do a few activities with her for writing, but I noticed that she's much more recluse than my other tutees so I think I will focus on speaking tomorrow when I see her. I noticed that the two other children, and three adults were being very quiet while in the same room as us. I could tell they really wanted her to be in a professional atmosphere, but I'm hoping they're not startled when I play games with her to allow her to practice speaking.
