Dylan CO#3

Kyle's class was so great last week I decided I wanted to observe his listening class as well. The date was Tuesday, July 14th. I might have chosen another day if I had known they were finishing a test, however the experience was helpful in many ways. I got to observe what kind of tests are given at CIES. I was surprised by the difficulty of the test. Students had to listen to a twenty minute long recording, all the while answering multiple choice questions and writing a short summary. They only had an extra five minutes to finish after the dialogue finished. The recording was also very academic, which seemed to make the material more dense and difficult for the students. Kyle told me for level three and on teachers are trying to prepare students for university level material.

I also got to see Kyle handle a difficult student, which could help any novice teacher. The student was very rude to start the class, which Kyle laughed off and the rest of the class followed his lead. At this point the class moved on like normal because Kyle reacted well. Then the student broke testing rules, which Kyle noticed and approached instantly. He reprimanded the student, who apologized and class moved on.

Overall, the class was very informative for reasons that would not be readily apparent at first glance. None the less, I think I needed to see that class to become a better all around teacher.
