Dylan TS#9

Lunchtime came and Pinar sprinted into the lounge at CIES. This is the second time she has done this, she says it is because she feels bad for making me wait. I really appreciate her dedication, and it shows me that she really wants to learn. I had material for past perfect and present perfect. She had a lot of good questions, and I felt confident in my answers. She was confused with the word "had", which was very difficult for me to explain. I finally got my point across and we hit a breakthrough when I explained present perfect is ambiguous about time while past perfect is time sensitive. She instantly understood and we moved on to a new, more complex topic in my opinion.

The next topic was the word "as" and all of its uses. I was not prepared for this and her questions were good for any native English speaker to consider. She asked about phrases like "as far as", "as well" and some others. She believed whenever people used the word "like" you could put "as". She gave me an example and I knew using the word "like" was incorrect, but I could not explain it. I wrote the problem down and said I will answer it the next time we meet. This is how most of our sessions go, I teach her new material she asked for ahead of time and then she asks questions that I write down and answer during the next session.

Our next session will be on speaking and using her vocabulary list that she must keep for CIES. I am very excited because studying speaking is a great way to learn about different cultures and I am very interested in hers.
