Joel CO#3

For this class observation, I attended Leslie Wagner’s 1B listening class. The class started off with a short quick quiz that had the students listen for st, nd, rd and th in ordinal numbers and fill in the blanks. They also had to take notes on another short audio clip. After that, the teacher started to talk about key lime pie in order to build schema for the audio clip that she was about to play. She asked if anyone had ever had key lime pie and explained what it was. She then played an audio clip that gave directions on how to make key lime pie. The students had to listen and take notes and she asked them some questions after she had played the clip a few times. After that, she split the students into groups and gave them each several strips of paper with the directions for how to make the pie. The students had to use their notes to arrange the pieces of paper into the correct order to show that they had understood the material. I felt like this was a good activity to help build the students listening comprehension skills as well as keep the lesson interesting because who doesn’t love food.
