Tutoring Nayun was difficult today because she was not in the mood for learning. I tried my best to keep her on task, but she was getting really antsy. It was very frustrating because it was my first time tutoring her since her vacation and Dianna was also observing.
I started trying to get her to play a learning game, but she wasn't too into it. I was reduced to have her spell the days of the week again like we did the other few sessions. She likes when I only hide some letters of the word for her to fill in the blanks, so this time I wrote "day" for all of them so that she would focus on the hard parts.
She got "wednesday" which was very difficult in the beginning. I don't know what her other tutors are teaching her, but I'm going to imagine that she learned that from me and what I taught her about saying "WED-nes-day."
Toward the end of the session, she wrote a word (flower), and I drew a picture related to that word. She then wrote a sentence about the picture that I drew.
To be honest, this was the first time I ever evaluated/corrected her (other than spelling). She wrote "sun is hot" and "tree is big." I ignored it until we did another picture and she wrote "fish is swimming." At this time, I explained that when we write a sentence, we write "The fish is swimming." She was able to go back and correct her other sentences. An awesome plus was that she also acknowledged the change in capital letters. She noticed that when she added "the" in the beginning, the "t" in "tree" was still capital and corrected it herself.
