Since
my time with the Korean girls was very limited as their parents were leaving, I
had to neglect my adult tuttee, Dorothy. Dorothy is a Chinese student who is
very advanced in her English capabilities. She is pursuing a master’s degree in
communications. The first time I met with Dorothy I took her to Tijuana Flats
after she told me she liked spicy food and I guessed correctly that she was
from Szechuan province. Tijuana Flats is the Mexican food version of Firehouse
Subs in that they both allow unlimited access to their varied hot sauces that will
satisfy even the most spice adventurists. We shared our backgrounds and talked
about Chinese culture. We also discussed where she’s at right now and what she
really needs help in. We settled on writing. Dorothy explains how she needs to
be able to type both with more power, and correctly. She can speak very proficiently and I’m sure
she can communicate with anyone in an able manner. Her skills in English
contest that of my own mother’s even, of who has been using English for almost
30 years! Especially with the upcoming TOEFL exams and research paper’s Dorothy
needs help with, I am going to commit a good amount of time with her,
especially with the knowledge of how important and pivotal passing this exam
is.
