When presented with a stack of children's books, some filled
with nursery rhymes, stories, colors and music, Sara selected the book with
colors and shapes. During our last
conversation partner meeting, each color was pronounced and shape
discussed. She even enjoyed opening up
the flaps and discovering what color and animal was below. Many were words common to American children
but she had not learned yet or could not pronounce clearly. During the hour, her young son came and went and even practiced and learned colors
and words in English too. I am going to put together a small glossary again
because she very much enjoyed the one from last week.
Some of the words: Crescent (like the moon), clown, purple, violet, sail
boat, rectangle, caterpillar and sand castle.
Before I left, Sara and I played a short game of Scrabble.
She laughed at my silly descriptions of some of the words but enjoyed learning
new animals and toys, like a top.
"Ape" was turned into a King Kong moment with sound effects which
brought a smile to Sara and her son's face too.
It's a fun way to teach and I hope learn.
