Marco CP#3
James and I met today in the lounge of the CIES Hecht House. He mentioned he may have a job prospect in Costa Rica in a "Farm Table" restaurant. The way a farm table restaurant works is kind of like a family meal where all the food is grown on site and the menu is limited to what was harvested and cooked on that day. Everyone sits at a table and eats family style at a flat rate per seat per person. He also mentioned another job as an English teacher part time but with enough pay/time that could make for a liveable wage, according to my father. After this I talked about places to visit in Panama, especially Bocas del Toro, but what James was most interested in was in a particular way my family gets sea food. Often in Panama people don't have a business at a location, rather they have cars and trucks for whatever they need. I explained that in the area I live we get a few trucks collecting metals to purchase and another truck that sells soils and fertilizers for gardens. The way we get seafood is much in a similar fashion. We have this guy my dad simply calls "Willie", he comes to the house in his car and in the trunk of his car is a cooler, sometimes two, with freshly caught seafood. We don't call or contact him in any way, he just shows up whenever he has something and drives up to our driveway. My dad comes down and we proceed to measure out whatever amount of seafood he wants into a plastic bagged and weight of a small pocket scale Willie carries with him. James really liked this idea and explained that often, in the restaurant where he works, farmers come to the door and do the same, his expression was that of a child on Christmas morning when he was telling me.
