Since we discussed so many different topics during the last
two conversation partner sessions we decided to bit more focused for this one.
During this meeting, we talked about entertainment, specifically TV shows and
movies, and the differences between American and Korean styles. In America,
there are many different styles and genres of shows and movies and so much variety.
However, in Korea the genres and styles are a lot more limited. Most movies and
shows tend to stick to a fairly general pattern. Also, in America, for the most
part, movie actors and actresses stick to movies, TV show people stick to TV
shows and ad people stick to ads. They don’t really cross over too much. Whereas
in Korea, it is a lot more common for actors and actresses to switch between
them. Another thing that you notice, is that in American ads, a lot of times they
try to use people that aren’t already famous in order to try to connect with
the audience better; whereas, in Korea they tend to use famous people such as
singers or actors and actresses for a lot of their ads. A lot of times you
might see a singer advertising anything from coke to appliances to cellphones.
I've been watching some Korean shows recently and definitely started to notice a pattern in the format of certain programs.
