TV CP#2

Today I got lunch with Karima, Dylan, Pedro, and Basi (not sure if that's the correct spelling). Dylan's conversation partner is Pedro and mine is Karima. Pedro and Karima are both in America on a Brazilian scholarship. The Brazilian students seem to be a close-knit bunch, but very friendly.

Dylan and I met with Karima in the Hecht house and we walked to Chik Fil A together because she didn't want us to eat Suwannee (she thinks it's not good food). In line at the cafe, we saw Basi, a student from Kuwait, who participates in the Cultural Workshops with me and Dylan. Karima must have met him in a class because they greeted each other first. Basi ordered his food and got it immediately, so he took a seat at a two person table. Karima found a large table for the rest of us. Once I got my food, I went to Basi and asked him to join us at our table. He obliged and sat next to Karima. Dylan texted Pedro to meet us and he joined us shortly after.

Conversation is always interesting with Pedro and Karima, but having Basi there was very interesting also. The Brazilians don't have cars, whereas many Arabic students have vehicles. Basi told me that he shares one car with two other students, although he lives in an apartment with American students. His car co-owners live in the same complex, but not apartment.

Today was a good example of the unity that students feel from learning in the Hecht House, or as the foreign students would say, CIES.  (they call the Hecht House CIES) I also feel this sense of togetherness from learning in the TEFL class and participating in the Cultural Workshops. Every one I meet is so friendly and kind.
