Classroom Observation with Kyle and his Speaking lvl 3 class

Great experience!  Kyle is a wonderful teacher and I came away with a better idea of how to teach a class.  Being removed from the classroom for 23 years, it is very difficult for me to draw from my own previous experience and I find it easier to learn from observation.

During this particular class, the students were giving their presentations and Kyle asked me to evaluate using the rubric he provided.  I listened to each presentation and gave what I considered a honest assessment.  At the end of the class, Kyle and I talked about the evaluation process and I quickly realized that I was to hard in my evaluating.  I able use this knowledge in my TEFL class later the same day.  We were tasked to listen to 2 presentations of previous students and evaluate using the rubric provided.  After listening, 2 members of my group were wanting to give a lower score but after I told them about my experience with Kyle, we all agreed to give a higher score which turned out to be the correct grade.  I believe that I now have a better understanding of the evaluating process and not to be so hard as this might be discouraging to the student.
