Nayun had been in New York for two weeks, and I was happy to see my favorite tutee again. We met on Wednesday, July 14th at 12:50 to 1:50. She seemed very tired after her trip so I tried to keep things light this week. I brought material on compound words and prepositions. I was not sure if she was ready for prepositions so I only scratched the surface, but she seemed to understand them by the end of the session. The majority of the lesson was on compound words, how to spell them, and their definitions.
Nayun seemed a little more restless this session, but she still is a hard worker and she finished the activity right on time. Being in the library did cause some distractions, for example, the last five minutes she was begging to go on the computer near our table. I told her no, which made her a little upset and that damaged her concentration. When studying prepositions the library showed another negative quality. I would call out a preposition like "behind!" or "beside!", and she would position herself around me accordingly. This worked well until she ended up on the ground and noticed gum under the table. I had to be very stern to make her stop messing with the gum.
By the end of the session I realized that studying in a public area has a lot of negatives. I wish her parents wanted to meet in a more private area. None the less, the session went well, and I believe Nayun learned a lot of new compound words and the beginning of prepositions.
