Today I met Abeer Hashim at her apartment complex's office center (Forum; what a snazzy place. I can't imagine how much rent could be). She's in Group 3 of her CIES courses, so talking to her was easy-going. The first thing she said before we sat down to talk was that she wanted me to correct her grammatical errors. She did make a few mistakes, but she caught them before I could point it out to her. She seems very smart and sweet. She came to the States in February with her husband (Group 4; they both got married in January) and they're studying English to get their masters degrees in their respective majors.
Like all first meetings, it was a little awkward. We threw questions at each other back and forth, and shared a bit of our cultures and families. I asked her what her favorite movie was and she said it was P.S. I Love You. Dude, I love that movie. We both flipped. But after we conversed for half an hour, she led me to a gaming area where we played arcade games like Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong, and whatever was popular. I'm not a huge fan of games, but it was quite fun although we both sucked. This could be our thing, we could suck together.
She mentioned she likes Italian cuisine, so I asked her if after sundown (9pm, is what she said) if she would be willing to have a late dinner together. She said yes! Sweet. She definitely wanted to hang out more, so I like her enthusiasm. I'm trying to plan a day for all of my conversation partners to meet and hang out, but it's proven quite difficult.
Haha I love hearing what the CIES students favorite movies are. Also Ms. Pacman, you can't go wrong!
